Way back in 2010 I created the first iteration of Woodworker’s Guide to SketchUp. My goal was to put together a way for the average woodworker to learn 3D modeling without wading through tons of YouTube videos, or months of trial and error. This worked, and worked well for thousands of folks over the last 12 years. I published this as a digital book in PDF format with video content embedded in the text. To me that format avoids the hassle of balancing a printed book on your lap as you work through what happens when you click a button or move your mouse. It worked well in spite of complications with the videos. There has been an ever changing set of hoops to jump through for different versions of operating systems (and updates) and versions of Adobe Reader. At the beginning of 2021 Adobe killed Flash. I wasn’t concerned about the impending death of Flash because it hadn’t been used to play the embedded videos for several years.

But Flash was used to create and display the controller for the videos, and while I expected them to come up with a new controller for the Creative Suite of software I (and nearly everyone else in publishing) use to layout and publish books. As the calendar changed from 2020 to 2021 the video content still worked, but the controller that allowed readers to pause and rewind videos vanished into the ether. You can read about that here. I had hoped that an elegant solution would arrive, but lacking that I now have a workable solution. All of the videos from Woodworker’s Guide to SketchUp are now available (to those who have purchased the book) are now available on this website. This is still a work in progress .

The videos are on this page, put they are protected by a password. If you bought the book just send me an email with Password Request in the subject line. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. The titles of the videos are references to the chapter and page number of the book where the videos appear. Phase two is to add a link for each video in the book to the specific online video. When that is complete, previous purchasers will be given access to download the new version for free. I had hoped to have both phases complete before making an announcement, but folks who have subscribed to this site have been getting notices of new content that can’t be accessed. Thanks for your patience and support.

UPDATE MAY 11, 2022: PHASE TWO IS NOW COMPLETE, THE VIDEOS WITHIN THE BOOK NOW CONTAIN DIRECT LINKS TO THE ONLINE VIDEOS. IF YOU ALREADY OWN THIS BOOK FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW TO DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION OF THE BOOK.
