Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture

This book is a compilation of three books by Robert W. Lang; “Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture” (published in 2001), “More Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture” (published in 2002) and “Craftsman Inlays & Hardware” (published in 2004)

One way to judge the merit of an idea is to see how long the results of that idea stay around. A long time ago I thought it would be a good idea if somebody published a book of measured drawings for building reproductions of furniture from the American Arts & Crafts period of the early 20th century. It is one of the few woodworking books published in the last 25 years to remain in print and was named by Fine Woodworking magazine as “One of 27 Books Every Woodworker Should Read”.

Category:

The book begins with a brief history of the period and important furniture makers. Chapters on materials and relevant woodworking techniques follow. The detailed drawings have the information you need to build reproductions of original designs of the period, as originally made by Gustav Stickley, L. & J.G. Stickley, Charles Limbert and Roycroft. Included are patterns to recreate the inlay designs of Harvey Ellis and the original Gustav Stickley copper hardware. If you like furniture from this period, this book is a tremendous resource for authentic details.

  • Drawings to reproduce 57 pieces of furniture originally made in the early 1900s.
  • Drawings for inlays designed by Harvey Ellis and others used in original pieces.
  • Drawings to reproduce original pieces of hardware used in this furniture.
