SketchUp Class Philadelphia Furniture Workshop – Nov. 11-12, 2017

I’m delighted to announce a SketchUp Class to be held the weekend of November 11-12, 2017 at the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop in Philadelphia, PA. You can get detailed information and register for this class at the PFW website.

While this will be my first time teaching at this school, it isn’t my first visit. I was there a couple of times in my previous life as a magazine editor, and among woodworking schools, this is one of the nicest facilities around. It is located in an old industrial building, with hardwood floors and windows aplenty. The shop is incredibly well equipped and the school offers courses in all aspects of woodworking.

The most important part of any school is the people, and Alan Turner has ensured that not only the facility, but the staff and organization are top-notch. In 2014, PFW became a non-profit organization, and Craig Vandall Stevens has recently joined the team as executive director. It is an honor for me to be invited to teach at the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop.

My class will be about using 3D modeling to become a better woodworker. SketchUp is a fantastically powerful and versatile tool enabling anyone to better design, plan, problem-solve and present any cabinet, furniture or woodworking project. My computer is projected on a big screen and students follow along on their laptops. After I demonstrate a technique, I coach participants and help them straighten out the SketchUp learning curve. I’ve been teaching woodworkers how to use SketchUp since 2008, and this class is the result of students from a previous class suggesting that I come in to teach at their local woodworking school. If you’re close to Philadelphia, this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

If you’re not close to Philly, send me an e-mail to find out how easy it is to arrange a class for your group or at a school closer to you. My thanks to Alan and Craig (and Doug and Wayne) for setting this up. If you’ve been struggling with learning SketchUp there is no substitute for hands-on instruction. This class will get you closer to mastering 3D modeling.
