The “Woodworking With SketchUp” class follows and builds on the foundation skills developed in “Building Blocks of SketchUp” using those skills to effectively design and plan any furniture or cabinetmaking project. Students in this class will learn how to use SketchUp to simulate the building and problem-solving processes found in the shop with SketchUp.

Specific techniques for modeling joints, molding, doors and drawers will be taught as will methods for extracting detailed information about every part in the project after the model is made. In addition to learning ways to efficiently design, students will learn to modify models and subassemblies, and to save complex parts for use in other models.

This class will also cover rendering of models for presentation, development of cutlists and panel optimization, and printing dimensioned drawings including details, sections and exploded views.

Course Requirements:

• Laptop or other computer with 3-button scroll-wheel mouse and the latest free version of SketchUp installed. (It’s OK if you have SketchUp Pro)
• Familiarity with SketchUp and basic skills to navigate in SketchUp, create, modify and duplicate geometry, create and edit components.
• Required skills are those taught in “Building Blocks of SketchUp.” We recommend you take that class first, but don’t require it. If you sign up for “Woodworking With SketchUp” without taking the “Building Blocks of SketchUp” class first, please understand that we won’t be able to take class time to tutor or coach the basic skills.
