I’ve written before about Dean Mattson and his work as a shop teacher at North Salem High School in Salem, Oregon. Shortly after meeting him online, I published “The Future of Woodshop, Win, Win, Win.” That inspired me to travel to Andy Chidwick’s School of Fine Woodworking in Montana to spend a week with Dean and five of his students. You can read about that in “The Six Most Important Woodworkers I’ve Ever Known”.

This video was filmed last year at the school, and is well worth the six and a half minutes it takes to watch it. You’ll see Dean, his volunteers and his students describe what an amazing difference the woodworking program makes in the lives of young people who want to work their way up and out.
